Deet is not neat.
Bet you can hardly contain yourself. Well, try not to pee a little because well, you'll embarrass yourself.
Ryan and I are back and we had an incredible time in South America! I will do a few full feature blogs about the trip, but first I have to give a shout out to an awesome company that was kind enough to send us off with some goodies!
The company is Osana - the soap that saves. This company rocks. In essence it's an all natural mosquito repellent soap that naturally protects your skin and keeps insects at bay. In the bigger picture, every time you purchase Osana, they help eliminate preventable deaths around the world caused by malaria.
We connected on social media, and quickly found that we dig the same things- mostly trying our best to make a difference in the world.
They reached out to see if they could send me some of their soap to take on my trip to the Galapagos and Peru.
So, here are the deets. Wait, can I say deet when talking about this topic? Ohhhh, mosquito repellant puns.
(somebody buy me this shirt please!)
Here's the problem, folks...
Malaria. Yeah you've probably heard of it, but you may not know just how deadly it really is. A child dies EVERY MINUTE from this malaria. That’s 1,300 kiddos who lose their lives to a mosquito bite every day. Unbelievable and unacceptable!
There were about 212 million cases of malaria 2010 and an estimated 429,000 deaths in 2015. Sadly, a majority of these deaths occur among children and pregnant women living in Africa.
What's even more frustrating is that this can be prevented. EASILY. It can be as simple as a bar of soap and a bucket of water (doesn't that sound like a classic country song?).
The goal of Osana is to educate people that there are simple steps they can take to protect themselves from this deadly sickness.
Providing soap to those that need it gives Osana a platform to raise awareness and educate those same people on sanitation practices and malaria prevention on a very large scale.
Another awesome thing about Osana is that tons of the commercial anti-mosquito soaps and sprays on the market today are toxic to the body, often containing neurotoxins and chemicals that have been shown to impair cell function as well as kill healthy cells. Osana soap is aims to provide an all natural alternative to those products.
My favorite part? For every package sold, Osana donates one bar to those around the world at risk of mosquito-borne and sanitation-based illnesses.
(thank you to Ryan for the photos!)
How cool are they? Like the Tom's of the hygiene industry. I love them.
If you want to help, purchase your own bar for the summer skeeters, or read more about Osana, click here!
