Somebody be my friend?! Adventures of our first market!
The Atlanta market was ridiculously fun! I felt so fancy walking in there acting like I knew what the heck was going on. This was my first market, and I forgot what it was like being the new kid at school! It's just a tit bit little scary.
I had so many questions...
Where do we eat lunch? Can I sit with you? Where am I? What do I wear? How do I get to class? What time is lunch? Is that allowed? whats for lunch? What's my name? What questions do I ask? Why am I always asking about lunch?! Help!!!! Someone Be my friend!!!!!!
That's kind of how I felt walking into the massive 16 floor mart.
Americas mart. This mart belongs to America if you weren't clear. It's here to make shopping great again.
Thank God my mom is on this journey with me. When things get awkward or tough or confusing, she helps me laugh through it. We laughed so hard we cried this weekend and that's what it's all about.
Luckily everyone was super sweet and very helpful (clearly I looked like a lost puppy dowg). I had that awkward forced smile while thinking (c'mon play it cool... play it coooolllll), but my eyes were like deer in headlights.
They would gently prod, ok let's start here... where is your store? What's the aesthetic? What are you looking for?
Ok, those are questions I could answer. One. At. A. Time.
And that's how you've just gotta take it. Life. All of it. One day at a time. Because let's be honest, nobody has any idea what they're doing. Oh wait... no... is that just me?
Of course there were some brands that weren't willing to take a chance on a new company, and that's ok. We'll come back to them when we're both ready. Rome wasn't built in a day. And neither was the wandering coast (not that we are the next Rome, but you know). But it will be built, eventually, and we'll keep our heads held high in the meantime and we are so grateful for the lines willing to take a chance on our vision.
It was a weekend where I didn't look at a clock, I was so enthralled by what we were doing, and fascinated by this new adventure and world I just walked into. That's what I want, a life not watching the clock and laughing about new experiences. So, although a small step, I think this was a step in the right direction.
This is what no one tells you about starting a business, you're not going to know what you're doing. But you're going to put on your big girl pants one day at a time, and act like until you figure out what you ARE doing.
So, we got it done. We bought inventory for our new dream store.
Here are the links to some of my absolute favorite things we found there!
